Pre Wax Care Guide

Smooth results start before your appointment.

At A Sugard Cookie, I always say great waxing begins with good preparation. Taking a few simple steps before your wax helps reduce discomfort, improves results, and keeps your skin calm and happy. This pre wax care guide walks you through exactly how to get your skin ready so your appointment feels smoother from start to finish.

How to Prepare for Your Wax

Pre wax care is all about setting your skin up for success. When your skin is properly prepared, the wax works better and irritation is easier to avoid.

Exfoliate Ahead of Time

Gently exfoliate the area one to two days before your appointment. This helps remove dead skin and allows the wax to grip the hair more effectively. Avoid harsh scrubs or exfoliating on the same day as your wax, as this can make your skin more sensitive.

Skip Lotions and Oils

On the day of your appointment, keep your skin clean and dry. Avoid lotions, heavy creams, oils, and fragranced products. These can create a barrier that reduces how well the wax adheres to the hair.

Let Your Hair Grow

For best results, hair should be about one quarter inch long, roughly the length of a grain of rice. Hair that is too short may not wax properly, while hair that is too long can increase discomfort.

Wear Comfortable Clothing

Choose loose, breathable clothing for your appointment, especially if you are getting a Brazilian or body wax. This helps prevent friction afterward and keeps your skin comfortable as you head home.

Communicate Any Skin Concerns

If you have sensitive skin, allergies, or are using active skincare products, let me know before your service. This allows me to adjust techniques and products so your experience stays as comfortable as possible.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • 1. Why is pre wax care important?

Preparing your skin helps the wax work more effectively and reduces the chance of irritation, missed hairs, or unnecessary discomfort.

  • 2. Can I exfoliate the same day as my wax?

No. Exfoliating on the same day can make your skin more sensitive. It is best to exfoliate one to two days before your appointment.

  • 3. Should I shave before my waxing appointment?

No. Shaving removes the hair needed for waxing. Allow hair to grow to about one quarter inch before your visit.

  • 4. Can I apply deodorant or lotion before waxing?

It is best to avoid deodorant, lotions, oils, or fragranced products on the area being waxed on the day of your appointment.

  • 5. What if my hair is longer than recommended?

If hair is longer than ideal, I can still wax it. However, trimming slightly beforehand may help reduce discomfort.

  • 6. Is pre wax care different for Brazilian and body waxing?

The basics are the same for both. Clean, exfoliated skin and proper hair length help achieve smoother results in any area.
